How Walking Socks Can Prevent Injuries

As strange as it may seem, a high quality pair of walking socks can actually reduce the occurrence of injuries to some extent. They won't prevent a sprained ankle or a muscle pull or anything like that. They are not as proactive at the task as a good pair of hiking boots or running shoes may be either. The one thing they do well however, is prevent the formation of painful blisters.

And from a simple blister, the potential for and infection, bleeding and swelling is always present regardless of how rare it may occur. While those involved in strenuous physical activities such as tennis, football and cycling can experience serious injuries, those that walk for their daily exercise generally do not experience anything more than the common blister.

Cheap walking socks are the number one cause of blisters. They retain too much moisture and do not reduce friction. A good pair of walking socks will generally have superior moisture wicking abilities as well as friction reducing properties. They are also made in such a way that the forces of pressure are distributed evenly as opposed to being too focused on a single point.

Moisture wicking is purely a function of the materials used. Cotton is horrible for this purpose, which is why it is wise to forego cotton when choosing a pair of socks. The best fibres are usually made up of synthetic blends and wool. They also last longer than cotton. Cotton tends to lose elasticity the longer it is used which can cause bunching. Bunching causes extra friction which in turn causes blisters.

Most people never really do any research on socks as it is a low cost item and they think nothing of it. With the advent of the internet however, more and more people are able to access information on just about any topic in seconds.

This has allowed the masses to educate themselves in a wide variety of topics. A subject as simple as walking socks has seen increasing scrutiny by the general public as awareness is spread through the wings of the world wide web. This in turn benefits consumers because it means they stop wasting money on subpar products.
